Glass vs Resin Rhinestones: Which Should You Choose?

Glass vs Resin Rhinestones: Which Should You Choose?

One of the most common questions we get from crafters is: should I use glass or resin rhinestones?

The honest answer? It’s personal preference. Both are beautiful, both work great, and neither is “better” than the other. But there are some differences that might help you decide which one is right for your project.

Glass Rhinestones

Our Luxe Glass Rhinestones are a fantastic alternative to premium crystals like Preciosa or Swarovski - without the high price tag. They’re still super sparkly and give you that classic crystal look.

Glass stones are heavier than resin and tend to cost a bit more. Some crafters feel the extra weight gives their finished projects a more luxurious feel. If you’re used to working with Swarovski or other premium crystals, glass will feel familiar.
Resin Rhinestones

Resin rhinestones are lighter and more budget-friendly, which makes them perfect for larger projects or when you’re covering a lot of surface area. We carry high-quality resin stones that sparkle beautifully - not the dull, cheap ones you might find elsewhere.
Resin also comes in more variety. We carry foil back resin, transparent no-foil resin, and jelly resin stones in tons of colors and finishes. (We’ll cover all the different types of resin rhinestones in another post!)

So Which One Should You Pick?

Think of it like the difference between a glass cup and a plastic cup. They both hold your drink just fine - one isn’t “wrong.” It just comes down to what you prefer in your hand.
If you want that heavier, traditional crystal feel and don’t mind spending a little more, go with glass.

If you want to save some money, cover more area, or experiment with different finishes and effects, resin is a great choice.

And honestly? Most crafters end up using both depending on the project. There’s no rule that says you have to pick just one!

Still not sure?

Grab a small pack of each and play with them. You’ll figure out your favorite pretty quickly once you see them in person and start working with them.

Happy blinging!
